Deciding whether or not to do a first look can be a tough choice, but here’s the thing—it should always be about what feels right for YOU as a couple! As a Texas wedding photographer, I’ve seen it all, and I’m here to help you figure out what fits your personalities and love story best. If you’re the type of couple who feels a bit more reserved or gets nervous about being the center of attention, a first look can be the perfect moment to calm those nerves and enjoy some time together before the whirlwind of the day begins. Let’s keep the focus on what makes you feel most comfortable and connected—because that’s what your wedding day is all about! Practical details like timing? We can get to those later. For now, it’s all about YOU!
When it comes to Gabby and Zac’s wedding, their decision to do a first look created such a beautifully intimate moment between the two of them before the big ceremony. There are so many different types of first looks to consider too! Some couples opt for a private first look with just the two of them, while others like to include their wedding party or even family members for a sweet surprise. And of course, there’s always the option to skip it altogether and wait for that aisle moment. If you still would like to share a private moment with your partner without including a first look, you can do a first touch while both of you are wearing blindfolds and holding hands. This alternative never ceases to bring out the tears! It’s such a unique way to share one final moment with your partner before tying the knot!
The key to choosing is really about how you want to feel. If you’re more reserved or nervous about being the center of attention, a first look can give you a chance to connect with your partner and calm those jitters before the ceremony. Gabby and Zac found that having a first look allowed them to soak in the day together, which made their ceremony feel even more special.
